Generals News · Wooster High School to Celebrate 2019 OHSAA Division I Track And Field High Jump Champion Lonnie Harper


Lonnie Harper, a 2019 graduate of Wooster High School, was a champion athlete during his high school tenure, earning many honors. Wooster High School welcomes him back to his alma mater for Lonnie Harper State Champion Recognition Night. Harper will be recognized during halftime of the Boys varsity basketball game on Monday, Dec. 23. Tipoff against the New Philadelphia Quakers is at 7:30 p.m.

The halftime ceremony will include the presentation of the State Championship banner and plaque in recognition of Harper becoming the 2019 state champion in high jump. In addition to his state championship, he was also the 2019 Ohio Cardinal Conference, district and regional champion for high jump. He participated in and won the Midwest Meet of Champions held at Michigan State University and was also a three-sport letter winner for football, basketball and track and field during his high school tenure.

“We are so excited to have Lonnie back with us for the game and to celebrate his amazing accomplishments,” said Joe Rubino, athletic director for Wooster High School. “Not only is Lonnie a great athlete but he is a tremendous person and a great role model for all current Wooster High School athletes and students.”

Harper won the 2019 OHSAA Division I Track and Field High Jump title with a height of 6’11”, just shy of his 7’ goal. He is currently attending Youngstown State University on a full athletic scholarship for high jump.

“This is going to be such a great event for Wooster High School and for Lonnie and his family, and we hope the community comes out to support him and his accomplishments,” said Tyler Keener, principal of the Wooster High School. “We are very proud to call such an exceptional young man and athlete a part of the Wooster Generals family.”

Tickets for the game can be purchased at the door and are $6 for adults or $4 for students. Passes for multiple games can be purchased at the Athletic Office at Wooster High School and range from $25 to $80.
