Senior Thomas Matthew earned All-American honors by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association as one of the top 100 swimmers in the country for the 200-yard freestyle. Thomas turned in a personal best-record of 1:39.38 to finish fourth overall at the Division I OHSAA state meet this past winter. It was the first time in his career he broke the 1:40 mark. Thomas finished his high school career ranked as the 60th-fastest swimmer in the 200-yard freestyle in the nation. He is the fifth Wooster swimmer to earn All-American status.
En route to finishing fourth in the 200-freestyle at the OHSAA meet, Thomas is also the Ohio Cardinal Conference Champion, the Canton Division I Sectional Champion (1:43.08, Meet Record), and the Cleveland State Division I District Champion (1:40.31) in the 200 free.
Matthew signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Cincinnati. He will start training with the Bearcats this coming fall.
